The fast-paced dialogue and action-packed scenes in Red Harvest make it a pretty quick read. But don't let appearances fool you. There's more going on in this novel than just gunfights and racy conversations.
For one thing, following the plotline isn't exactly a walk in the park. It's more like getting lost in a deep, dark forest. There are so many characters in this novel that trying to keep all the names and faces straight is like looking at a page from "Where's Waldo?" We see characters turn on each other, but sometimes it's hard to remember who is on what side and why.
So if you feel yourself getting lost along the way, don't panic. You'll eventually find your way out of the forest. But no guarantees that there'll be a rainbow on the other side. Probably just a body lying in a pool of blood.
