Sun Day, after noon
- Sig remembers back to the first argument Einar and Nadya had after they were married. It wasn't about leaving the toothpaste cap off, or how much to spend on shoes—nope, it was about forgiveness.
- Nadya wants Einar to forgive people, but he's not so into the idea. Interesting, Einar used to have this same fight with Maria, Anna tells Sig.
- Nadya quotes the Bible at Einar, but it's no use—he wants to keep a gun in case trouble comes knocking.
- Nadya asserts that this is a peaceful area, though, so she's not sure why they'd even need a gun.
- We get a little backstory on Nadya: She's from a small community where a revivalist preacher taught everyone to let go of things like sex, alcohol, meat—you get the idea—but the preacher didn't follow his own rules, so Nadya decided she's had enough and packed her bags.
- Einar thinks Nadya should understand that sometimes evil people come around, and Sig should know how to shoot just in case one does.
- The fight doesn't really go away, per say—it just stops being said out loud.
- Back in the present, Wolff calls out to Sig to see what's taking so long.
- Sig comes rushing back and Wolff asks him what they mine here in Giron.
- Iron, Sig tells him. His dad was the assayist here too. Einar always said iron was a lot safer than gold, because no one dies over that.
- As soon as he says it, Sig regrets it—he starts to feel really scared that Wolff will do something to hurt him.
- Once Wolff has, um, wolfed down his coffee, Sig suggests that he go.
- But Wolff doesn't budge—he wants to know how long they've been here, and when Sig tells him three years, Wolff just huffs.
- Then he lowers the bomb: Since Einar is dead now, that means Sig is his heir… and that means Wolff's business is now with Sig.
- This can't be good.
