What do you do for a mother when your own mother isn't around? You wait to meet Lill, of course. Lill inadvertently becomes the mother figure for Mibs and the rest of the crew when she boards the bus, and not a moment too soon—though Mibs and the gang try to hide it, they are feeling pretty lost by the time Lill comes around, especially with Lester at the wheel. Lill's perfect for the job, though, and promptly provides stability and guidance where there wasn't any before.
Lill helps Mibs understand that Bobbi is probably just as scared as Mibs is, if not even more so, and she also points out that Will like Mibs, even if Mibs is embarrassed by this revelation and refuses to believe that it's true. Lill tries to take responsibility with Miss Rosemary for the kids when she finds out that they're supposedly missing, and gets them toys and swimsuits and hotel rooms to take care of them while they're with her.
But Lill isn't just a temporary mom—she's also a guardian angel for Lester. She takes a real shine to him—and he to her—and by coaching him and styling him up a bit, helps him find his feet both personally and professionally.
