Character Analysis
Trouble walks into the café one morning in the form of Detective Starr… or at least that's what Mo thinks. Detective Starr isn't from around Tupelo Landing, but he's here to investigate a murder. At first, everyone is a bit wary of him because he's a stranger and doesn't seem to understand small town life:
The stranger looked slow around the café, his eyes the color of a thin winter sky. "Give me a burger and a sweet tea," he said, strolling to the counter.
Already, I didn't like him. (2.1-2)
Mo is more critical of him than anyone else because she feels like he suspects the people she loves, namely the Colonel and Dale. But Detective Starr keeps investigating and ends up arresting Robert Slate and all other involved parties with the help of Mo and her family. It turns out that he's a good guy after all… though the same can't be said of his fellow cops.
