- Mrs. Danglars visits Villefort at his office, and the two are freaked out by the fact that the Count may know about their past and about the fact that they killed their child.
- However, Villefort knows that the Count is lying – the Count couldn't possibly have found the baby's skeleton, because Villefort knows that Bertuccio took the baby with him after trying to kill him.
