Mother and Son

  • Albert and Mercédès decide enough is enough. They plan to leave their life in Paris and go live simply together somewhere else.
  • The Count sends Mercédès a letter telling her to go south to Marseilles and visit old Dantès' house. Buried under a tree is a small fortune that Edmond would have used to start a family with Mercédès way back when.
  • Mercédès is touched and agrees. She tells the Count that she will use the money to begin her life as a nun.
