Dumas's body was buried in his hometown of Villiers-Cotterêts, but in 2002, his remains were moved to the Panthéon in Paris (a place where lots of famous French people are buried). There was a huge parade and service to commemorate the move, and the President of France at the time, Jacques Chirac, said, "With you, we were D'Artagnan, Monte Cristo, or Balsamo, riding along the roads of France, touring battlefields, visiting palaces and castles – with you, we dream."
