When authors refer to other great works, people, and events, it’s usually not accidental. Put on your super-sleuth hat and figure out why.
Some Ways Their Culture's Like Our Culture
- Entwined is set in a pseudo-European-ish past with magic in it (see the "Setting" section for more on this), so we're not expecting to see a ton of references to contemporary pop culture or really specific historical facts. Still, you'll catch a few familiar references, such as:
- Latin (12.73)
- Heaven (22.148)
- Prayers (19.110)
- The Bible (28.53)
Also… Grimms' Fairy Tales
- This isn't technically a reference that happens inside the text, but the whole idea Entwined is based on comes from the Grimms' Fairy Tales. Their version of the story of the twelve dancing princesses is called "The Worn-Out Dancing Shoes" and you can read our Shmoopy summary here.
