- They hold the funeral. Afterward, Fairweller tells Azalea that he and the King are leaving to fight in a war—Azalea's sisters overhear this news, so Azalea tries to comfort them by showing them a new dance step.
- But the King catches them, and reprimands them for dancing while in mourning—apparently it's dishonoring their mother's memory. Azalea feels bad.
- Later on, the girls talk, and Delphinium and Eve put forward the theory that their dad's going to leave for the war without saying goodbye because he doesn't love them anymore. This angers Azalea, and she says she'll go fetch him and show them all it's not true.
- But the steward, Mr. Pudding, says that the king has already left to go to the port.
- Furious, Azalea saddles a horse and goes after the King. She reaches him at the port, but he can't leave his troops and come back to the palace just to say goodbye. While there, she manages to put a crack in an old silver sword too, that belonged to their first king.
- Azalea tells her dad off, saying that if he doesn't want his daughters, they don't want him either, then cold and exhausted, Azalea rides back to the palace.
