- Azalea tucks in the girls and then goes to the ballroom by herself. Mr. Bradford surprises her there, and surprises her further by telling her that he'd followed them; he got his pocket watch back too.
- Turns out Mr. Bradford has a wraith cloak (a.k.a. an invisibility cloak) that's been in his family for generations, so he followed the girls and saw everything—which means Azalea can tell him about it all, since she's not revealing the secret that she swore to keep. Finally she can talk about what's been going on.
- They agree that they should tell the King (or Mr. Bradford should, because he's not under an oath) first thing in the morning. Things get a little flirty between them.
- Azalea goes to bed, and when she wakes up, she goes and finds the King, who's speaking to someone official-looking. And… he just agreed to Lord Teddie's marriage proposal to Bramble. Without asking Bramble.
- Azalea is upset. She'd promised to look out for her sisters, and now this? She grabs the reins of the King's horse, hops on, and says that she's taking the sword to the silversmith like she'd meant to.
- But they take a tumble into a river, and the sword falls into its waters. Argh.
