Then
- The next morning, Toussaint and Isaac head over to General Brunet's tent.
- There, Brunet is all smiles and welcoming to his guests. Plus, his wife doesn't shudder when Toussaint kisses her hand, which he likes.
- Their hosts step out to get some tea for Toussaint and Isaac, but when they return, they have the armed guard with them.
- It turns out Brunet isn't trustworthy after all. Isaac is shocked; he doesn't understand what's going on, and Toussaint realizes that France didn't teach his son much other than bookish stuff.
- Toussaint will surrender, but first he wants to give his pwen to Isaac.
- He takes it out of his pocket and explains what it is to his son, even though he thinks it's a little crazy. Okay, a lot crazy.
- The soldiers take Toussaint to their ship and place him in a cargo hold so he can't escape.
- He's bummed out since he worked so hard to free his people and Haiti.
- Then he realizes that even in death, there's a reunion of sorts: He'll get to be with everyone who died so far.
- This gives him comfort.
