- Back in Hannah's manuscript, Jude, Narnie, and Tate have gone to the police to demand an investigation into Webb's disappearance.
- They talk to three people who don't really seem to care before being sent to a young cop. He's shocked by their news because he knows the girls—he was the officer called to the scene of the accident when their parents were killed.
- Just in case you haven't figured it out, the cop they're talking to is Santangelo's dad. We just wanted to point that out.
- The cop tries to tell them that teenagers sometimes run off for no reason, but they refuse to believe it, telling him that he doesn't know Webb—Webb would never abandon them.
- Tate tells him about all the plans Webb had to build them the house by the river after they left school. Then she drops a bombshell: Webb never would have left because Tate is pregnant with his child.
- The cop decides to take Webb's disappearance seriously and starts taking notes. He asks them to get him a recent photo of him.
- Taylor attends another meeting at the scout hall with the Townies and Cadets. As she walks in, Taylor overhears a girl say that Taylor is Jonah's girlfriend.
- She confronts them about this, and Raffaela makes up a story about how Jonah really does actually have a girlfriend to get the girls off Taylor's back.
- Later, Ben makes a remark to Jonah about how he's going to be spending the night with Taylor. Amazingly, Jonah doesn't punch him.
- On the way home, Taylor thinks about the three days she spent with Jonah and how he shared his self-hatred and anger with her on the train, crying over his father's dad.
- Later that night, Griggs shows up outside Taylor's window and demands to be let in to finish the negotiations that evidently didn't happen at the scout hall.
- They settle on some rules for the Club House's public events, including local music from the Townies and no dress code. Also, Anson Choi, Jonah's second-in-command, gets to DJ.
- Taylor tells Jonah she's sorry for bringing his dad's death into their situation. She then tells him that the last words the Hermit whispered to her before he shot himself were, "Forgive me."
- The chapter ends with another excerpt from Hannah's book. Narnie is telling Jude her account of the car crash.
- She tells him that when the impact happened, her mother flew out the car window and was decapitated. Narnie stayed sitting in the same spot so Webb wouldn't be able to see what happened to her.
- Narnie says to Jude that if Webb doesn't come back, her whole family will be gone, and if that happens, she might disappear.
