Jellicoe Road Chapter 21 Summary

  • And now we're back at Hannah's book for a brief interlude…
  • In the aftermath of Webb's death, Tate disappears, throwing Narnie into utter despair and depression. Left alone, all she has are Fitz and Jude.
  • Back in the present day, the Club House brought in a large amount of cash, which is split among the three factions, then again among the Houses at Jellicoe School.
  • Taylor's House decides to get a karaoke machine with their share and has an inaugural House-wide party when it arrives.
  • A lot of the girls sing really depressing songs about relationships, except for Taylor and Jessa, who do a Kenny Rogers song in tribute to Jessa's dad, who was a huge fan.
  • Raffaela, Taylor, Santangelo, and Jonah start meeting every night in the Prayer Tree to talk about territory war stuff, except they never actually get around to talking about the war; instead they end up just talking about life.
  • Jonah finally talks openly about his father's death, sharing the conflicted emotions that come with having an abusive father whose death he's responsible for.
  • He says that he has to be reminded of how bad the abuse was and fears the day when his mother won't be around to help him remember. Santangelo and Raffaela tell them that they will.
  • Jonah hands Taylor some photos she dropped during her secret mission to the Brigadier's tent. For the first time, Taylor sees an image of the original five—including her mother as a young girl, before her drug addiction.
  • In the middle of the night, thoughts of her mother drive Taylor out of bed and toward the spot on the Jellicoe Road with the poppies. She finds Jonah there waiting for her.
  • Jonah tells Taylor that he knows she wants to find her mother and that he wants to help. Taylor agrees, knowing that if she finds her mother, she'll also find Hannah.
  • They borrow Santangelo's car and some of the earnings from the Club House. Santangelo says that if they aren't back in three days, he's telling everyone where they went.
