Please Ignore Vera Dietz Part 1, Chapter 11 Summary

History—Age Seven

  • When Vera and Charlie are seven, they're in the same first grade class. Charlie starts talking about the spirit of the Great Hunter, an Indian spirit who lives in their woods and protects them.
  • At library time, their teacher gives them a picture of a leprechaun wedding to color, and Vera asks Charlie if he thinks they'll get married someday.
  • Charlie asks if she means the two of them, and she says no even though she did mean it.
  • He says that marriage means too much yelling (which is weird to Vera because her parents meditate and do yoga together) and that the Great Hunter rides solo.
  • Secretly, Vera is disappointed by this.
