Grounded, Completely and Totally—Part 2
- During their third family meeting (out of the four sessions they're signed up for), the subject of Vera's mom comes up again even though neither she nor her dad have done the written assignment.
- She and her dad get into an argument because she feels like he's always comparing her to her mom, who made bad decisions. Vera says she isn't like that, but her dad accuses her of drinking and screwing a twenty-three-year-old man.
- Then her dad brings up the drinking and says that he's failed her; all this time he wanted to stop her from developing an alcohol addiction problem like his. He even says that he cried the first night she came home drunk.
- Her dad also tells her that she needs to stop torturing herself over Charlie's death. That's when Charlie uses Vera to speak up—before she can stop it, she blurts out that she knows that Charlie didn't burn down Zimmerman's Pet Shop.
- When her dad asks her why she didn't say anything before, she says that it's because she loved Charlie too much. And then she says that it's also because she hated him too much. Their Facebook relationship status would definitely read "It's Complicated."
- After the appointment, they go to McDonald's and eat burgers. Her dad says that she can go back to school and to work part-time at Pagoda Pizza next week, and Vera is glad.
- She's also glad that he hasn't asked her again about Charlie's death, because she wants to clear his name in her own time.
