How It All Goes Down
Puck
- Elizabeth—Dory Maud's sister—drags Puck to the bonfire where a riders' ritual is taking place: All the men who ride in the Race are splattering their own blood on a rock by the sea.
- The mare goddess cuts their hands, and they smear their blood, but when she gets to Puck a man named Eaton objects, saying "No woman's ridden in the races since they began," (32. 73). Yeah, because most women have more sense than Puck does… oh, we did we say that out loud?
- He says it's an unwritten rule that woman aren't aloud, but Puck doesn't give a puck about unwritten rules. She protests repeatedly, but the men aren't having it.
- Sean finally speaks up and says to let her ride. And, just like that, problem solved. Good thing there's a man there to take care of business for her.
