- This chapter opens with a line the same as the first line of the book: "It is the first day of November and so, today, someone will die" (58.1).
- Like Puck in the previous chapter, Sean has someone trying to convince him not to race, too: George Holly, who's asking Sean to return to the states with him instead.
- Of course Sean refuses, saying that he will move into his father's house when he and Corr are free from Malvern's control.
