- Tristram gets a new cellmate, whose name is Charlie Linklater. Out of the kindness of his heart, Charlie pledges to get help Tristram escape from the prison.
- For the next few days, Charlie lays the groundwork for Tristram's escape by pretending to despise him.
- On the fourth day, while Tristram pretends to be deathly ill, Charlie calls for help. He knocks out the warder who comes to investigate, and helps Tristram switch clothes with the unconscious man.
- Before he leaves, Tristram hits Charlie hard enough to knock him out too, so that none of the other prison staff will suspect his involvement. What a good friend.
- Tristram is worried that his beard will give him away, so he heads to the Officer's Sickbay after leaving his cell. There, he interrupts another officer's bath long enough to sneak a quick shave.
- That done, Tristram hands in his keys at the front office, and walks carefully out of the prison and into the open air.
