Music (Score)
Thomas Newman's score is just as quirky and distinctive as the movie itself—and it does not hang out in the background of the movie, like lot of film scores do. With a whole jumble of unexpected sounds (produced by an equally surprising set of instruments), you almost feel like the music itself is a character—it really is that present. Plus, it's all so gorgeous that you can't help but pay attention to it.
No one's surprised, though. Newman's scores are often a little odd like this one: he's a totally distinctive composer, and it shows in everything he does...most notably in Skyfall, the Bond movie that Sam Mendes directed.
Oh, and here's some trivia: Newman also worked on another Alan Ball project: Six Feet Under.
