Flora and Ulysses Chapter 45 Summary

Four Words

  • Flora pushes her mom for the truth, urging her to admit that she asked her dad to kill the squirrel.
  • While she's at it, Flora would also like to know what the heck William is going here.
  • Flora's mom says he's helping her with her novel, but Flora doesn't like it one bit.
  • She calls her mom an arch-nemesis, a villain, and some other not-so-nice names, and then Flora announces that she's moving in with her dad.
  • Flora's mom thinks that's rich considering her dad can't even take care of herself; there's no way he can take care of her, too.
  • Flora points out that at least he loves her more than a lamp, at which point her mom lets her know that actually life would be easier for her if Flora did move out.
  • Ouch. Even for her high-strung and isolating mom, that hurt; Flora thinks about how badly this stings.
  • No one speaks for a second, so William jumps in, telling Flora the only reason he even came over was to find her.
  • She tries to calm herself down by saying "seal blubber," but he doesn't understand.
  • All of a sudden, Ulysses leaps off her shoulder and flies through the air.
