Flora and Ulysses Chapter 50 Summary

An Incomplete List

  • To call it poetry might be an over-statement. What Ulysses wrote on the paper might be more accurately described as a list, and an incomplete one at that.
  • The list is full of random words that Ulysses has heard while hanging out with Flora: "RITA! Sunny-side up Pascal Giant squid Little shepherdess Vanquished Capacious Quark Universe (expanding) Blundermeecen Banished."
  • At the end, there's Dr. M's goodbye to Flora: "I promise to always turn back toward you."
  • George thinks the poetry is pretty good, but William points out it's not very poetic; he thinks they should be honest with the little guy, even though he's a squirrel.
  • Either way, there's another writer in the family, Phyllis points out.
  • Tootie arrives and asks what's happening, and after she's filled in, she reports that Ulysses inspired her to write a poem of her own.
  • She also informs William that his mom called.
  • He's excited to hear it, and asks if she wants him to come home, but sadly, she doesn't. Oh well.
  • Tootie suggests William comes home so he can eat dinner, which makes Ulysses perk up. Did someone say food?
