Chapter 11: October 26
- Her movie date with Scott went well and when they went out afterward she ate six whole fries (we'll gladly eat the rest of those if you're not going to…).
- She's not totally in love with Scott, but she's chalking this up to the fact that Roger must have been her one true love.
- She swears that she'll never have sex with anyone other than Roger ever.
- In fact, she's still not so sure about sex at all, but she's hoping she'll grow into her sexuality.
Chapter 12: November 10
- Alice is just starting to feel a bit anxious about leaving her childhood home and is being, shall we say, just a tad melodramatic.
Chapter 13: November 30
- She recounts Thanksgiving in this entry and it sounds pretty cozy—Gran and Gramps came and made taffy, hijinks ensued, and they all had some good laughs.
- They're all sad to be moving away from each other, and once again she expresses trepidation about whether the move will really be as great as she's been thinking it will.
Chapter 14: December 4
- Alice's mom is pretty worried about her weight loss and has started making her eat actual meals instead of, for example, just half a grapefruit.
- She seems to be in denial that her extreme dieting might be having adverse effects on her health and only sees how mean her mom is—not that she's doing it for her own good. She even considers bulimia just to keep losing weight.
Chapter 15: December 10
- She writes that her diary is probably her closest friend, and contemplates her relationships with her actual IRL friends.
- Like most teenagers, she feels like she has to pretend just to be like everyone else and fit in.
Chapter 16: December 14
- Alice is Christmas shopping, and she has splurged and purchased a pearl pin for her mother. It's really important that her mom like it, because Alice is somehow conflating her liking the pin with her liking her, which is kind of sad when you think about it.
- She wants to get a fancy-shmancy pencil holder for her Dad but can't afford it.
Chapter 17: December 17
- Lucy Martin is having a Christmas party and Alice is supposed to bring a gelatin salad (one of many things that thankfully has gone out of style).
- Alice is once again musing about sex and boys and her mom (not all at once, though—ew).
Chapter 18: December 22
- The Martin's party was fun, and afterward she had a pseudo-date with Dick Hill. It sounds like it went pretty well but she's insecure and can't help but feel dissatisfied with everything.
Chapter 19: December 25
- It's Christmas, and Alice had a wonderful day with her family.
- Her mom liked the pin (phew), and she got a bunch of great gifts.
- She wishes things could be that happy all of the time (don't we all?), but it's bittersweet because it's the last Christmas in that house.
Chapter 20: January 1
- Last night she went to a New Year's party at Scott's and people got a little boozy. She came home early saying she didn't feel well, but really she's just anxious about moving in two days.
- The reality of starting over in a new place with new people is no longer the magical cure-all she previously chalked it up to be.
