Chapter 81: October 19
- Chris and Alice want to turn over a new leaf and get clean, so their plan is to run away to San Francisco (because there are no drugs in San Fran in the 1960s… oh wait) and turn Rich and Ted into the authorities. But it's totally not about revenge—they just want to stop them from selling drugs to kids. Sure you do, girls…
Chapter 82
- Chris and Alice are running away in the middle of the night. They're headed first to Salt Lake City, and then they'll backtrack to San Francisco (this is ostensibly so Richie, their family, and/or the cops can't find them).
- Alice says the reason she's running away is because she doesn't want her family to know how awful she is.
Chapter 83: October 26
- The girls make it to San Francisco, and now they're living in a disgusting one-room apartment because it's all they can afford.
Chapter 84: October 27
- Alice and Chris look for jobs all day with no luck.
Chapter 85: October 28
- Another day, another unsuccessful job hunt.
Chapter 86: October 29
- Alice gets a job in a little lingerie store. She's hoping it's only temporary until Chris can find something better.
Chapter 87: October 31
- Alice is exhausted by her crummy job, and Chris still can't find one. Ugh.
Chapter 88: November 1
- The girls do a little sightseeing, but despite the beauty of the city, Alice is secretly a bit homesick.
Chapter 89: November 3
- Chris finally got a job at a fancy-schmancy boutique. The owner, Shelia, is glamorous, beautiful, and wealthy, and she promises to teach the girls how to run their own boutique someday.
Chapter 90: November 5
- Alice is getting more and more homesick, but feels like she can't tell Chris for fear that she'll think she's an idiot.
- She wishes she could go home but is too afraid of Richie.
- Alice even admits to her diary that she wishes she'd never used drugs because they are the reason she's in such a mess.
