- Annabel remembers the party over the summer that she went to with Sophie and Emily. She wore a pink suede top she'd just purchased.
- Sophie and Will had been fighting for some reason. Annabel felt overwhelmed (and preoccupied with all her family drama), so she ducked into a small alcove under the stairs. But Will Cash followed her.
- She excused herself and went over to chat with some boys, including one named Nick who was very drunk. Afterward she went upstairs to use the restroom.
- As she passed a bedroom, she heard someone say her name and thought that Nick had gotten too drunk and was lost. She stepped into the bedroom and realized that something was wrong right away.
- The guy inside pushed the door closed and forced himself on Annabel. Even as she fought him off, he was able to overpower and rape her. What a terrible, awful memory.
- The door suddenly opened and the light flicked on, and Annabel realized that Will was the one who raped her. Sophie was standing in the door, looking down at them in confusion.
- Then she immediately turned on Annabel and started yelling at her and calling her names.
- Annabel went home and didn't tell anyone in her family about what happened. She tried to call Sophie, but she wouldn't pick up at all.
- So she just ended up avoiding people for the rest of the summer. Once she ran into Sophie at the drugstore and tried to talk to her, but Sophie just called her a "slut" and said she didn't want anything to do with Annabel.
- When her mom asked her how Sophie was doing, Annabel said that she was fine. This was one of the first lies that she told about the whole incident.
