A Christmas Gift
- On Christmas Day, Lizzie comes in from ice skating and finally sees Parsefall, who's been strangely absent all day long.
- He hands her an emerald necklace and says it's a gift for her—he saw her looking at it when they were in Madama's room the other day.
- Lizzie Rose is about to protest, but then one of the servants comes in with trays laden with delicious food. The children are completely distracted and start eating as much as they can. It's not every day they have a feast like this.
- As they eat, Lizzie Rose questions Parsefall about where he's been. He gets all cagey, though, not answering all of her questions and mentioning that he'd like to go back to London.
- Parsefall admits that he doesn't like it here at all; there are no crowds of people or puppet shows happening outside, and he misses the hustle and bustle of London where he can actually put on shows for people.
- Lizzie Rose decides that she'll humor him and agrees to rehearse the puppets with him at Strachan's Ghyll while they're here.
