The Sixth Sense Scene 36 Summary

  • Malcolm's back home. His wedding video is back on the TV, and his wife is asleep. Malcolm gets down next to her and starts talking to her.
  • She says, "I miss you" and asks why he left her.
  • Suddenly, a wedding ring drops to the floor and rolls.
  • Malcolm checks her hand and sees hers in place. He realizes it's his ring she had been grasping in her hand and dropped.
  • Why isn't he wearing his ring? He stares at his own hand in disbelief.
  • We flashback to when Cole revealed his secret about seeing dead people who don't know they are dead. Wait, what???
  • Malcolm suddenly seems to realize that something's very wrong. He staggers away from Anna, and we get flashbacks to other moments that should have been clues that Malcolm wasn't connecting with the people around him because he has been dead this entire time.
  • We see Anna's breath as she exhales—since, you know, ghost Malcolm is making things really cold, as ghosts in this movie tend to do.
  • Flashback to the night of the break-in. Malcolm is bleeding out on their bed.
  • Back in the present, Malcolm also finds himself bloody.
  • Suddenly that unpleasantness is over, and he's back next to Anna.
  • He tells her that he thinks he can go now. He just needed to "do a couple of things." He needed to help someone and he needed to tell her that she was never "second."
  • They say goodnight to each other.
  • Breakthrough #2.
  • The screen fades to white as Malcolm closes his eyes. We suppose that means that Malcolm has now gone peacefully into the afterlife, Swayze-style?
  • We get just a quick flash of their wedding video, in which Malcolm and Anna are dancing and kissing, and the credits roll.
