- Just after midnight Jason slips ninja-style through the town to the water tower. He hears Henry approach and watches for a minute. Just as he is about to speak, he realizes Henry has disappeared—he's climbed up already somehow. Then he directs Jason to grab the thick black cables running up the I-beam of one of the tower's legs.
- Jason starts climbing toward the lower catwalk, one hundred and twenty feet up. He makes the mistake of looking down though, and freezes up. He watches Henry make it to the catwalk and clown around, and getting mad at Henry helps him move again so up he goes to the catwalk. Then the two climb a ladder to the higher catwalk, the one that wraps all the way around the tank.
- The steps end at the exact center of the top of the tank, and that's where Jason sits, clinging to a steel post with a blinking red light. He can see for miles.
- The hatch to the tank is padlocked. Henry and Jason theorize about why and about how the tower must get hit by lightening all the time.
- Jason decides all the Chutengodians have to climb the tower for Midnight Mass the next Sabbath. "'This is my territory,'" Henry says (10.77). So Jason makes him the High Priest.
