Who is the narrator, can she or he read minds, and, more importantly, can we trust her or him?
First Person (Central Narrator)
Our narrator is Jason Bock. He seems like a pretty reliable narrator, as far as first person narrators come. One hint to his reliability is the way he presents us with his own shortcomings and strengths (check out his analysis in the "Characters" section for more on these). He also sums others up pretty astutely, backing up his observations with proof. For example, when the guys are hanging out at Wigglesworth and Magda comes over, Jason says:
"What are you guys doing?" she asks. Magda can't stand to be left out of anything. (7.6)
And sure enough, pretty soon she asks to join the CTG. Don't worry if you didn't notice that Jason totally called this though, because he makes sure to point out his reliability to us when he says, "Like I said, Magda can't stand to be left out of anything" (7.52). Duly noted, Jason.
The story of godless is Jason's first-person experience. Without him the story isn't merely untold—it doesn't occur at all.
