The 5th Wave Chapter 4 Summary

  • Cassie spots a guy propped against the back wall. He's in military gear and he seems to be badly injured.
  • He pulls a gun on her and tells her to drop her weapon. She doesn't.
  • He asks her two more times before he drops his own gun. Cassie's still not letting hers go, though.
  • She asks to see his hands. No can do, he says. If he moves his hand his guts are going to spill out everywhere. He tells her he's dying.
  • Cassie is super nervous and conflicted. She doesn't know if she's capable of shooting a person.
  • The soldier says he knows Cassie's human because she hasn't shot him. He suggests that since he hasn't shot her, she can trust he's human, too.
  • Cassie thinks that makes sense, but she's still suspicious. She insists on seeing both hands.
  • The soldier goes crazy and is like, just shoot me. She doesn't. Yet.
  • Finally, he shows her both hands. She sees something metallic in his left hand and shoots him.
  • The solider is dead. Cassie investigates what the metallic thing was. Turns out it was a crucifix. Whoops.
