The 5th Wave Chapter 53 Summary

  • We're back with Cassie. She's beating herself up for trusting Evan. She knows she shouldn't.
  • She's lying with Evan on the bed, above the covers. (Guess nothing too serious happened between them.) She's conflicted. She wants to trust Evan.
  • Evan stirs and goes to look around or hunt or something. Cassie lies in bed alone for a few hours.
  • She hears a creak and gets really nervous. She picks up her gun, walks to the door, and pulls it open.
  • Oh, it's just Evan. Cassie's mad that he scared her.
  • Evan comes in. He starts talking about his dead girlfriend and siblings' deaths. He seems upset.
  • He says he felt it when they died, like a punch in the heart. Maybe since Cassie hasn't felt that, Sammy is still alive.
  • Evan's crying. And now he and Cassie are kissing again. How come one of them's always weeping when they make out?
  • They fall asleep. After a few hours, Cassie wakes up with a start. If Evan's a farm boy, how come his hands are so nicely groomed?
  • Cassie tries to talk herself out of her doubt, but the truth is she's suspicious.
