Flora and Ulysses Chapter 16 Summary

Victims of Extended Hallucinations

  • Flora opens the door expecting to see her dad, but instead, it's Mrs. Tickham.
  • Immediately, Mrs. Tootie Tickham notices the lamp and is confused by it. Why would someone have a shepherd lamp?
  • Whatever, let's talk about the squirrel, Mrs. Tickham decides.
  • Flora fills her in on what's happened since they last spoke, and lets her know that the squirrel can type.
  • Flora's mom, Phyllis, calls out to see who's at the door, and when she hears it's Mrs. Tickham, she comes over and greets her.
  • She's not sure why Tootie would come to visit Flora, but she wants to find out.
  • There's no time for that, though, because before Phyllis can do anything else, she sees a little rodent on top of her beloved lamp.
  • Phyllis shrieks, hollering about how the squirrel needs to get off her precious lamp and leave her house immediately, and also telling Flora not to touch the critter because it has diseases.
  • Ding dong. The broken doorbell rings again, and this time it's someone looking for Great Aunt Tootie.
