Flora and Ulysses Chapter 51 Summary

Possessed!

  • Flora can hardly believe it when her mom not only invites Ulysses to dinner, but insists he sit at the table with them.
  • In truth, it's a weird idea, since he's just a little squirrel and he can hardly see over the table, but Flora doesn't want to ruffle any feathers.
  • Her mom is acting really weirdly and she's worried she's had some kind of psychotic meltdown or something.
  • More evidence of her mom going mad? She insists on Flora eating a second helping of mac and cheese and doesn't comment on her gaining weight if she does. It's truly like her mom is possessed.
  • Flora asks her dad if she can come and live with him for a while, and he says yes, absolutely, just not right now because her mom needs her.
  • Even though Flora points out that her mom said her life would be easier without her, George tells his daughter to give her a chance; her mom just said that, but actually really wants Flora there.
  • After dinner, Flora remembers her Incandesto comic. Inside, Alfred is homesick for his own kind.
  • It's funny—she feels the same way now. She wishes she could go live with her dad or be around people who weren't totally crazy like her mom.
  • She tells Ulysses he can't type on her mom's typewriter. It makes her mom all weird, so he should lay low for a while.
