Before the Others start killing people—and even after that—humans are stressed because they don't understand the Others. Over time, it becomes clear they want to take the planet for themselves. Probably. Right?

It's hard to find the bright side about lying in a pit filled with human ash, but Cassie is comforted when she realizes that it's not so gross. These bones belonged to people just like her—not the Others.
