How we cite our quotes: (Chapter.Paragraph)
Quote #4
I looked down at my steering wheel, picking at the edge. "I don't know," I said. "In my experience, when people I'm close with have gotten upset with me, that's it. It is forever." (8.62)
Pretty much every time Annabel's gotten into a big conflict with a friend, that friend has disappeared. Maybe that's why she keeps expecting it to happen with Owen when he's willing to sit around and patiently hear her out.
Quote #5
"The thing about Whitney," I said, "is that she was always really private. So you never really knew if anything was wrong with her." (10.210)
Whitney exists in her own little world with her eating disorder, and she doesn't want to let anyone else in. This makes it hard for her to get better though, especially when she's unwilling to accept help.
Quote #6
Looking up at him, I realized that this, too, was part of my real back-to-school days: Along with Sophie and Will and everything horrible, there was Owen, reaching out a hand to me. (11.119)
Annabel isn't so alone after all. Things may have soured with Sophie and all her other friends at school, but at least she's gotten this opportunity to know Owen. And he's been a more solid friend than Sophie ever was.
