Hatchling
- In all his travels, Mihai found out that he had not always been a Druj demon, that once he had been a human.
- In fact, he became human again for a short time in the 16th century as a boy named Yazad (gee, that sounds familiar). During that time period, he didn't know anything but his human life.
- And even after that life was ripped away from him, he knew that he had understood and felt real human emotions, like love.
- After that, Mihai realized that he had somehow formed a soul and that he could still feel emotions. He went to find Yazad, the boy whose soul he had lived inside of, and they became friends and travelled together.
- Mihai also found new unborn souls to incubate inside of so that he could learn more and more about humanity and develop more of a soul himself.
- He tells the Queen now that they once were humans but they gave up their souls for immortality. The Druj didn't know what they were going to miss when they decided to become demons.
- Esmé's skin starts to grow hot and Mihai realizes that it's going to happen soon—the Druj Queen is going to rip apart from Esmé's soul after incubating there for fourteen years.
- Before it can happen, he tells Esmé what the Druj Queen's name used to be when she was a human. And Esmé starts crying out in pain.
