- On his way there, though, Pranjivan stops him and warns him that he must not let Anamique speak—the demon cannot win.
- James is skeptical for obvious reasons, but Pranjivan keeps insisting that he must believe in the curse. The whole thing makes James feel quite uneasy.
- He walks on and sees the woman, and she reaches out and snatches James's shadow away. That's definitely new.
- He wonders if it's just an illusion, but when he looks behind him, his shadow is definitely gone. What's that all about?
- Right before he arrives at the Political Agent's house, a little boy runs up to him and hands him a parcel. Inside are his shadow and a note that says one word: "Believe."
