Oh boy… there are probably just as many (if not more) strange and supernatural beings in Lips Touch: Three Times as normal human beings. There are goblins and demons and Druj, and the magical and real worlds mix seamlessly, with characters traveling from one realm to the next. In "Spicy Little Curses Such As These" for example, Estella and Anamique make the physical trip to Hell and back. And in "Hatchling," Mihai can open up doors to the Druj world simply by speaking a few words of magic. That's a cool party trick, if a little scary, too.
Questions About The Supernatural
- What shape do the goblins take in order to go after Kizzy? Why this shape? How would the story be different if they presented as themselves?
- How does Kizzy's grandmother try to warn her from beyond the grave? What does this tell you about death and magic in her story?
- How do Anamique and Estella make it in and out of Hell without dying? Give evidence from the text.
- How does Druj magic work? Be specific, please.
Chew on This
Because she's grown up with plenty of family stories about the supernatural, Kizzy isn't even all that surprised when she enters the cemetery and hears ghosts talking to her. She's more attuned to the spirit world because of her upbringing, which contributes to her not thinking goblins are the biggest deal ever.
No one escapes the supernatural in this book. Not even Esmé since her life will always be influenced by supernatural elements.
