How It All Goes Down
Same Day
- Knowing that these men have been paid off by the guards, Raisa desperately tries to wake Leo. No luck.
- The leader approaches Raisa, making some seriously disturbing threats with the "steel shard" he swings like a sword (4.47.8).
- In the meantime, Leo has woken up, unbeknownst to the thugs. He slowly approaches the leader, letting him take a free punch. That'll be the last one he'll land.
- Suddenly, Leo leaps into action, killing the man with his own weapon. Another member of the gang makes a run at him, but Leo gives him the business. The remaining three retreat.
- Leo and Raisa have survived, but they're still in big trouble. The train will be stopping soon, and the guards will be ticked when they "discovered two of their assassins dead" (4.47.23).
- Impulsively, Leo stands up and speaks to the crowd, explaining his story and his investigation. To his surprise, the people give him immediate support, having heard of the murders themselves.
- The train stops, and the guards make their rounds. Although they find the bodies, not a single person rats Leo and Raisa out—not even the three remaining thugs.
