How It All Goes Down
Southeastern Rostov Oblast, 14 July
- Leo and Raisa are chilling in a cargo crate. One villager who works as a truck driver has agreed to transport them to near Rostov-on-Don, though they'll need to make it the rest of the way themselves.
- Out of nowhere, Raisa suggests killing the driver—he seems "ambitious" and untrustworthy (4.53.19). Horrified, Leo refuses. That was the right decision, because the question was just a test from the always-clever Raisa.
- Raisa wants to leave the country after they stop the killer. Leo doesn't—he's unwilling to live life as a traitor.
- That's when Leo finally asks Raisa about the microfilm case. The truth is the she had once used it to carry "cyanide paste" to kill herself if things got too bad (4.53.23). That's heavy.
- Now it's Leo's turn to reveal a secret—he tells his wife that he has a brother.
