Chomp Chapter 13 Summary

  • The next morning, Wahoo has a nightmare about Tuna and her dad.
  • After a quick cup of coffee, Mickey, Wahoo, and Tuna meet up with the crew to load into airboats.
  • The three go with Link, who tells Mickey he will be watching him.
  • They ride for an hour into an open space and stop when they see a helicopter. Derek gets ready to jump out of the helicopter and into the water. Tuna is stoked.
  • We learn from the narrator that many survivalist TV stars parachute into the wilderness, but "Derek" (a.k.a. a stunt man) does it blindfolded, which Mickey thinks is lame.
  • Then Derek is filmed making the jump perfectly and Link goes to pick him up.
  • Tuna is majorly bummed to find out that a stunt man made the jump.
  • Derek is lowered by a cable and basket into the water to be filmed swimming with close-ups, which disappoints Tuna even more.
  • In the water, Mickey tries to catch a snake for Derek to use in the next scene.
  • Nervously, Wahoo talks to his dad about what Derek intends to do with the snake (kill and eat it). Knowing Mickey, do you think he will let that happen?
  • Catching a non-venomous water snake, Mickey keeps it warm on his stomach under his shirt while they all ride to the next shooting location.
  • Both Wahoo and Tuna are anxious about what Mickey is planning to do next—Wahoo is nervous that his dad will do something stupid and cost them the job, and Tuna doesn't want an innocent animal to be murdered for entertainment.
  • Derek is filmed swimming alone, and then the helicopter pilot says there is some weather heading their way so he takes off to refuel.
  • Mickey is called to bring the snake over and then thunder rumbles a ways off.
  • On cue, he releases the snake.
  • We learn that heat makes snakes very alert and active—and more aggressive—so Mickey was tricky by warming it up on his belly.
  • Action: Derek catches the snake and it bites him all over, even on the chin.
