Chomp Chapter 6 Summary

  • Wahoo adds up how much money the family has and how much they owe.
  • Inspired, Mickey suggests calling Susan, but Wahoo reminds him that it is expensive to call.
  • Then the narrator tells us that because Mickey used to curse so much, Susan made him pay for each bad word he said, which inspired him to replace his bad words with the word bleep just like in a TV show. Bleeping TV, man.
  • The narrator tells us that Wahoo knew a kid from school who lost his house, so this is something he's worried about.
  • Noticing how differently his dad is acting, Wahoo is troubled, so he goes for a walk and sees Raven put make-up on Derek's nose, which makes him smile.
  • We learn that Mickey spent a lot of time digging out a hole for the fake Everglades set.
  • When Wahoo sees Alice, he remembers how no one at school believed how Wahoo lost his thumb, and how he didn't feel the pain until he saw it missing. The girl that saw it happen moved away to a "normal" area… whatever that means.
  • Despite his odd upbringing, Wahoo is still happy with his childhood.
  • While Mickey walks to the gator pond, Derek honks his horn to call everyone to the set.
  • Back up: Before he honks the horn, and while Raven puts his make-up on, Derek discusses what critters he should eat for the show—he wants to eat that snapping turtle.
  • Then he asks who is going to cater (cook his food) for him during filming because he eats expensive fine cuisine while acting like he is starving on camera.
  • When Derek finds out the caterer is not the pair of girls he wants, he gets angry.
  • Back up: Before Derek honks the horn, Mickey has a flashback about the first time he was bitten by a snake when he was four years old. He was amazed by it and has loved all kinds of creatures ever since. He'd catch all sorts of animals to care for as a kid, a practice his family wanted him to grow out of it. He didn't, though, and Susan Cray didn't mind his passion for wildlife.
  • Mickey feels lonely without Susan and has a headache. He adores Alice and loves to look at her, and his mind wanders into a daydream about caring for Alice as a hatchling. Mickey made her as tame as any wild animal could be, and he fed her so much she got exceptionally big.
  • While talking to Alice, Mickey is interrupted by Derek's horn honking.
  • He assures Alice he will protect her.
