Character Analysis

Rolly is Owen's best friend and works at the radio station too. He's a fun-loving, happy guy who goes to the hippie private school in town. Rolly works at a self-defense studio as the guy that people attack when they're practicing their moves (fun job, right?). He's also the biggest hopeless romantic ever. Throughout the story he's on the hunt for a mystical female who attacked him during practice. He's utterly in love with her and wants to make sure that their meeting is just perfect, which is why he freezes up the first time he sees her:

"The thing is," Rolly said, "it's a big deal when you finally get the chance to do the one thing you want to do—need to do—more than anything. It can kind of scare the crap out of you." (10.159)

When Annabel realizes that the girl Rolly is obsessed with is Clarke, she introduces them—much to Rolly's delight. By the end of the book he's dating Clarke, and they're all one big, happy, never-ending double date.
