Adventure

Um, do we really need to elaborate on this one? If embarking on a quest to find a mysterious Dr. X in order to close a wormhole to another dimension while fighting off fire giants and evading capture by bad guys isn't an adventure, we're not quite sure what one is.

Young Adult Literature

While this book can most definitely be enjoyed by all ages, its primary audience is those falling in the young adult category. The language is simple but dirty, the main character navigates classic teen conundrums (even though he's dying) like sex and social hierarchy, and the story is compelling. Who doesn't that appeal to?

Sci-Fi

Even though a lot of the science fiction stuff that happens in Going Bovine is actually fantasy (it's only happening in Cam's brain, after all) it's all pretty… science-y. Subjects like string theory, parallel universes, god particles, and the viability of time travel are all debated at length. And any time science is discussed at length in a book, you're probably either doing your science homework (good job) or reading science fiction. Funny how that works, we know.

Quest

Cam, Gonzo, and Balder cover quite a lot of ground while seeking out Dr. X and saving the universe. There are multiple modes of transportation involved, many obstacles overcome, and many battles fought. This is one epic quest if you ask us—even if it does only take place inside Cam's head.
