- D-503 relates an event, where he is walking with Designated Booty Call O-90. In the spring, The skies are blue, the local Musical Tower is playing dirges to the One State… all is well. Except the O-90 is too short to be allowed to have kids and she seems a little unhappy about it.
- As they are walking, they meet I-330, another female. She tells him "you looked about you like an inspired mythological god on the seventh day of creation," (2.13), which gives him the heebie-jeebies. Isn't everyone supposed to look exactly alike?
- More irritation: I-330 invites him to meet her at Auditorium 112. He says he will only do so if assigned by the State. She assures him that he will be.
