We Record 28 Summary

  • D-503 is back home and trying to get his head around the world beyond the Green Wall.
  • I-330 arrives, with U- on her tail. She claims that U- was trying to keep her from D-503.
  • He yells at U-, upsetting her. She leaves, presumably to plot some horrible revenge.
  • They embrace and she tells him that all of the Auditoriums are going to be closed. They're being set up for some sinister new purpose.
  • D-503 says he'll go off beyond the Green Wall with her if she wants. She says that he should stay a little longer.
  • He begs her to tell him about the people beyond the Wall. She calls them "The half we have lost" (28.35) and that the two halves must be rejoined. She says they were survivors of the Two Hundred Years War who remained in a primitive state instead of "advancing" like the people in the city.
  • She also says that "MEPHI" is short for "Mephisto," and stands for anarchy. It's the order to which she belongs.
  • They are interrupted by a message from MEPHI, who says that guards are coming. I-330 is unconcerned.
  • The interlopers split, and D-503 heads over to his desk, writing in his journal to make it appear as if everything is all right.
  • A group of people arrives, including U- and S-4711. S- demands that D-503 show them his journal. He shows them the sheet he was writing… praising the Well-Doer. That seems to be enough for them and they depart.
