- D-503 ponders death and the way that time brings him closer to his decision. It's a little morbid.
- He and his coworker watch as the first recipients of the Operation leave the nearby auditorium to begin their happy post-lobotomy lives.
- They spread out into the crowd to lead them into the glorious operating rooms, and panic erupts.
- D-503 flees into the street, where he runs into O-90. She's terrified about the Operation, and begs him to help. He agrees.
- He takes her to the Ancient House, fearing that S-4711 is pursuing them. In order to keep I-330 safe, he sends O-90 out beyond the Green Wall through the tunnels, then stays behind.
- He returns home, only to find U- freaking out. Apparently, a caveman was seen near the Ancient House.
