- D-503 heads to the Ancient House, while "the whirlwind of yesterday still raged within me," (17.2)
- On the way, he passes the Green Wall and sees the leafy, chaotic wilderness on the other side of it.
- He reaches the Ancient House and goes looking for I-330, but cannot find her.
- His search is interrupted by S-4711, who he tries to hide from… in the cupboard where I-330 disappeared. Turns out, the cupboard is an elevator leading to a secret passage.
- He follows it, and runs into the doctor he spoke to yesterday… as well as I-330.
- She leads him back to the Ancient House and tells him to come back the day after tomorrow.
