- D-503 wakes up with a "ring of glass iron" around his head, and compulsively wanting to kill U.
- He takes a heavy piston rod from his closet and wraps in in his diary pages, then heads downstairs to bash her head in. She's gone and he heads out into the streets to find her.
- He finds general signs of chaos, as well as a pair of post-Operation drones eager to help him join their zombie army.
- He escapes and heads back home. U- is there and he gets ready to bash her brains in.
- At the last minute, he hesitates and she tries to talk to him. He responds with laughter. "Here I learned from personal experience that laughter is the most terrible of weapons; you can kill anything with laughter, even murder." (35.31)
