Day
- Two nights before his execution date, Day has a disturbing dream about his brother John.
- In it, they're playing ball when Day accidentally hits it over to a policeman.
- It's a memory in which they're currently celebrating John's new job—their mother has worked extra long hours and sold some of her belongings in order to buy a whole chicken (a luxury that they're not used to).
- When the policeman comes over though, he's angry and the family has to offer up their money, belongings, and chicken to keep him from unleashing on Day.
- As John lectures Day, he tells him something that seems a bit foreboding and ominous—he says that he'd rather die than see the police hurt Day.
- Day wakes up with the fear that John is going to let that happen, somehow.
