Legend Chapter 2 Summary

June

  • That night June goes to a celebratory ball in honor of her capturing Day. Everyone's talking about her and how young she is, and she tries to enjoy it, but feels bad about betraying Day.
  • Thomas is escorting her and she would've usually enjoyed this, but now she feels uncomfortable about him. After all, he killed a woman without even flinching.
  • Apparently Commander Jameson told her earlier that there's someone special here to see June. She has no idea who it could be, but she chooses a really elaborate dress with lots of tiny diamonds on it for the occasion.
  • According to Thomas, they'll be sentencing Day tomorrow morning because they want to make an example of him. Thomas hates the idea of June spending time with Day, but all June can think about is the fact that she enjoyed spending time with Day… and that she enjoyed kissing him. We thought so.
  • Thomas says something about how generals from the warfront have come to see Day's little brother, Eden, and this confuses June.
  • Chian comes over to congratulate June, even though she totally doesn't feel like talking to the slimy little man. She notices with interest that he has a war hero badge and that he probably has a prosthetic leg.
  • They go into another room to meet the person that Commander Jameson had mentioned. She sees a dozen military officials in fancy uniforms, and then notices someone older—it's the Elector Primo.
  • June is pretty much awed by this meeting, but she manages to act professionally and calm and she thanks the Elector Primo for meeting with her.
  • The Elector Primo also introduces June to his son Anden, who is twenty years old and handsome. Anden takes June's hand but does not shake it; instead he kisses it. Quite forward of him, no?
  • After the celebration Thomas takes June back home to the apartment. He seems off—is he upset because the Elector Primo's son kissed June's hand? Then he asks June if Day kissed her when they were together in the Lake sector.
  • June says yes and Thomas takes that moment to try to kiss her, but she pulls away; he seems pretty upset as he leaves for the night.
  • Inside her apartment, June logs onto the Internet and starts looking at things since she can't sleep.
  • She starts researching Day's—or rather, Daniel Altan Wing's—information. She sees that both of his parents are dead and then moves on to read that he's responsible for Metias's death.
  • And then she stumbles upon something odd. The file says that Day failed his Trial with a dismal score of 674, but June thinks that's pretty much impossible since Day is smart.
  • She opens up his Trial document and scrolls through it, going through all the questions in her head and answering them. When she finishes, she finds something astonishing.
  • Day didn't fail his Trial. He got a perfect score—just like June did.
